15–Point Business Wish List for 2015

1. A METRO BACOLOD INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The creation of an integrated development plan with Bacolod’s neighboring cities and municipalities will project Metro Bacolod as a “Huge Market – High Income” investment destination. The integration of the development plans with member cities and municipalities will result in a combined, greater positive impact on our economy.

MARKET ORGANIZATION:

2. Improved conditions and increased income for street and sidewalk vendors. Organizing our street and sidewalk vendors into strategically-placed, organized & profitable market centers will keep our city streets and sidewalks safe and orderly. The improved buying experience in the market centers can increase the income of our vendors, as well.

3. Improved public market facilities organized, well-ventilated public markets will encourage more business and will promote the welfare of our vendors and customers.

4. Establish a trading post or ‘bagsakan’ for our local farmers. Support our local farmers by providing a marketplace for farmers’ produce. A farmers market can raise the value of our local produce to a competitive level and promote the welfare of our local farmers.

ROAD AND TRANSPORT EFFICIENCY:

5. Review and improve vehicular traffic flow

Easy access to strategic points in our city will improve market conditions and the livability of our city. For example, improved access to and from our seaports and airport will encourage visitors/tourists to visit our city, and climate-resilient pathways will ensure quick recovery when a disaster strikes.

It is also important to look after the welfare or our tricycle and trisikad drivers/passengers. Keeping them from harm’s way includes keeping them away from the main thoroughfares of our city.

6. Develop San Juan Street as the alternate road for Lacson Street

Decongest and ease the traffic flow in our main city streets by developing alternate routes. Our main thoroughfares should only be for moving vehicles. Street parking should be prohibited on them.

7. Establish a South Bus and Jeepney Terminal Similar to the North Bus Terminal. This will limit the entry of provincial buses/jeepneys into city streets. This will promote orderly road conditions and reduce noise and air pollution.

8. Keep traffic lights in good condition at all times

Traffic lights will ensure our safety and keep orderly street conditions.

PEACE AND SECURITY:

9. Increased police visibility Empower our city policemen by providing them with appropriate vehicles and radio equipment. Quick response teams will also deter lawless elements from some disruptive behavior.

HEALTH AND SANITATION:

10. Improved garbage collection and disposal

The timely collection and proper disposal of garbage will increase the livability of our city, promote our well-being, and reduce the health care cost of the city.

11. Improved drainage system

Preventing floods will ensure our safety and ensure business continuity despite extreme weather conditions, which have become more frequent due to climate change.

UTILITIES:

12. Water

Improved water supply and distribution systems are essential to enhancing the livability of our city. Improved access to adequate & safe water supply is essential to both health and businesses.

13. Power

Improved power supply and distribution systems is indispensable to growth and welfare.

Reliable power supply ensures businesses’ continuity, promotes business expansions and attracts new investments. These, in turn, will create not just jobs, but good-paying jobs.

14. REAL PROPERTY TAX

A “win-win” solution to the impasse should be worked out immediately. We have to project our city’s image as an investor-friendly business hub.

15. BUSINESS PERMIT PROCESSING SYSTEM

Review and further improve the system. A “two-day” processing time is ideal. Prompt and hassle-free processing will assert our city’s image as investor-friendly, promoting the growth and expansion of our existing businesses, and attracting new investors.*
