Wednesday, November 29, 2017

Thirty-eight department and office heads of the Negros Occidental are currently attending the two-day Local Economic Development Strategy Planning jointly organized by the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Center that started yesterday at the Beach House in Sagay City.

MBCCI president Frank Carbon who welcomed the group said that in a few years, there will be a change in the economic landscape so it is best that they learn the strategies this early. He urged those persons to help local government units make the rural areas development- prone instead of development resistant, a press release from the capitol said.

Provincial consultant on Trade and Investment and former governor Rafael Coscolluela shared his insights on the positive and business-like attitude of the Taiwanese people he learnedduring his recent visit to the country. He said that LED is a recent paradigm used by LGUs to attract investors. “We cannot wait for the programs of national government to trickle down to the provincial level. As long as there is poverty in the rural areas and there is an imbalance, there is something wrong and we need to address these issues, “ he said.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr., in his message said that the province just received its 3 rd Seal of Good Local Governance award from the Department of Interior and Local Government together with some cities and towns of the province. “We have done so much for our province but we have still many things to do, let's think like the Japanese people, let's think about what's good for the whole”, the governor added.

LED coach and former University of Philippines professor Dr. Aser Javier discussed various aspect of Local Economic Development and will conduct a workshop today to assist the Capitol heads on the LGU LED Strategy Formulation, the press release added.*
