MBCCI willing to help CENECO get rehab ok

May 05, 2014

The Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other members of the business sector are willing to assist Central Negros Electric Cooperative to secure the approval of the Energy Regulation Commission of its P630-million system rehabilitation program, MBCCI President Frank Carbon said yesterday.

Carbon said CENECO had requested the approval from the ERC last year to improve its delivery and reduce substantially the frequent brownouts in the areas being serviced by the utility firm.

During their recent meeting, CENECO assured that there will not be an increase in power rates as the expenditure will be funded by the reinvestment fund for sustainable capital expenditures.

Carbon also said they raised a proposal with CENECO to bid their future power needs for transparency.

Meanwhile, MBCCI reiterated its call yesterday for Central Negros Electric Cooperative to implement the interruptible load program where huge corporations that have generator sets use them during peak hours, so the electricity available can be used by other consumers.

Carbon said ILP is a mechanism designed by the Department of Energy which has been proven successful in Cebu and will soon be implemented in Manila. If these areas can implement it, it is not impossible to apply it in Bacolod City, he said.

CENECO president Arnel Lapore said they are open to the possibility of implementing the interruptible load program but they do not have a scheme to determine how much CENECO will pay the huge corporations if they use their generator sets during peak hours.

Lapore, however, said CENECO will need to study the interruptible load program further and find out how Cebu was able to implement it successfully.*APN
